Why we’ve been in touch

We recently identified an inconsistency in the annual management fees disclosed for ULANZ. This means customers will be refunded for the difference between the annual management fees charged versus those disclosed in your annual statements.

The fees charged were consistent with the terms of your Policy and correctly disclosed in the ULANZ investment statements.
 

What happened?

Until November 2025, an annual management fee of 2.0% p.a. was applied for the Property Investment class and 1.75% p.a. for all other investment classes for ULANZ. These fees were consistent with the terms of your Policy and correctly disclosed in the ULANZ investment statements transferred to RLA.

However, the annual statements sent to you each year through to November 2025 (or to the date you surrendered the policy, if earlier) noted different fees as summarised in the table below.

Your payment

We will be making payments to customers the difference between the fees charged and those stated in the annual statements going back to 1 April 2014.

  • For current customers, this amount will be credited to your policy.
  • For former customers, this amount plus interest will be paid to the bank account that you provide us. The interest amount is calculated using the Ministry of Justice Civil Debt Calculator from the initial surrender payment date to 30 September 2026.


What you need to do

We need your current bank account details in order to make the payment to you. There are several ways in which you can provide these details:

Remember to include your Request ID (at the top of the communication you received from us). 
 

What happens if we don’t hear from you?

Unfortunately, we cannot pay your refund to you unless we receive your bank account details.  
If we don’t hear from you by 30 September 2026, we’ll add your payment to our unclaimed monies register for 5 years and the monies may be sent to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), as unclaimed money. You would then need to contact IRD to claim payment.
